Garment care by fabrics

Came across this website [ Garmentcare.info ] that list down Garment Care instructions by fabric, generally useful tips to share with all !

However, contrary to some points, we'll recommend that bleach is best avoided in order to extend the life of your beloved clothes. Unless absolutely necessary, skip the bleach.

Style imaging - know your body proportion

Body proportion is an important aspect of style imaging, which helps us find out whether we are having long legs or long torso or balance. This will help us find out the length of skirt/dresses that suits us, so let's try this!

Tools needed? A measuring tape, that's all :)

First of all, measure your height (H cm). Next, measure your length from your toes to the legs folding point = LL cm. Legs folding point is the part where it folds when you are sitting down or lifting up your leg. Do a simple subtraction to get your torso length, TL = H - LL cm

Categorize into one of the following:
Cat 1 : Balanced (LL = TL)
Cat 2 : Longer legs than torso by 2.5cm (LL > TL + 2.5)
Cat 3 : Longer torso than legs

For height below 157cm, reclassify
cat 1 to cat 3
cat 2 to cat 1

For height above 165cm, reclassify
cat 1 to cat 2
cat 3 to cat 1

Bingo, Now you know your body proportion category!

So how long can your skirt length goes?
Cat 1 can fit skirts up to 5cm below the knee
Cat 2 can fit skirts which goes all the way down
Cat 3 can fit skirts up to the knee

Anyway, this is only a guideline, most importantly, you love what you are wearing! Cheers :D

What makes a woman beautiful?

While browsing Nina Garcia's The little black book of style, i came across this in the first chapter

"Nothing makes a woman more beautiful than the belief that she is beautiful. "
~ Sophia Loren

Wow, that is so true! The belief that oneself is beautiful doesn't equate to arrogance nor vanity, but a quiet confidence that stems from inside and exudes out externally.

I hope you feel beautiful too :) Have a great Friday!

Tips on buying online

Some tips that might be handy when buying online!

#1
Check out any delivery charges excluded from the price tag

In Singapore, Singpost services will be used to deliver an item to the customer. Typically it will cost from $1 to $1.50 per piece of clothing ordered. You should always check out the Singpost website for the rates of postage.

#2
Make sure you inform the seller if you want to track postage of your item and check the additional cost that comes with it

Singpost charges $2.24 for registered article. Some sellers may charge more than $2.24 as they deem it an additional service to walk over to the post office. So please make sure you are ok with what they are charging.
If you do not want to opt for registered article, in the event that the mail gets lost, 100% of the time seller bears no responsibility because the mailing is lost by the mail handler (which is another company) and not the seller.

#3
Check the currency of the price stated

If the currency stated is not your local currency, goto any currency converter website (just google search, and you'll get a few links) and get an estimated cost of the item in your local currency.
As currency rates changes day by day, you will need to buffer in some differences and also your credit card charges for non-local currency transactions.

#4
Check if the seller is registered to perform trade in the country

Any registered business in Singapore will have their own registration number. This number is issued by ACRA (Accounting & Corporate Regulatory Authority). It is generally safer to deal with a business that is registered compared to a seller who does not register with the authorities, unless the seller is somebody you know.

#5
Request actual photos on the items you intend to buy

Some sellers post photos of the items on pretty models (especially for apparel) and sophisticated photo shop has been done. These pictures are normally given to them by the supplier. Always request actual photos of the items you intend to buy.

#6
Ask questions about the item you intend to buy

Besides refering to the seller's size chart, always request for detail measurements of each item you intend to buy. This is because for any 2 person of the same size, their shoulder width, arm width, chest width..etc.. might be very different. So requesting for additional information helps you to decide if the item does fit. If the item might be slightly bigger, try and buffer some alteration cost in, and decide if it is worth buying. If you suspect the item might be too small or too big beyond alteration, do not purchase it unless you are ok with selling it on eBay :)

Most importantly, enjoy the process of shopping online :D

Your skin tone does change

I'm sure many of you has an idea whether your skin tone belongs to the warm or cool or neutral palette. But we might not notice that as we tans, our natural skin tone also gets affected.

I used to have cool skin tone, so I bought a lot of pretty pastel coloured clothes like lilac, baby blue etc. Well... ever since I started swimming, I realised that I can't wear all these anymore! Colours like grassy green and brown works now, while pastels and pure black pales in comparison. Conclusion, time to renew my wardrobe :P

So the next time you put on your favourite top, if the color no longer works as good as before, you know why ;)

Love it or hate it ... Neon colors are back !

Since last fall, neon colours are said to be the next IN thing. We don't see much of it happening in Singapore though.

Well... I'm personally not a fan of neon colours either,
but I came across this article on Glamour that gives a neat trick on wearing neon!
Loved the way she toned down the neon skirt, making her outfit so chic.

If it's still too much, probably opt for something with just a tinge of bright colour.

Such as this brown top on the right, a neutral color like brown tones down the bright yellow too !
